Fair Start Scotland Team Working in the Community

The Fair Start Scotland team have recently been getting back out into the community and they are really excited that they have formed a new working partnership with Roystonhill Community Hub.

Angie Fraser, Volunteer Coordinator said:

“Roystonhill Community Hub is situated in the heart of Royston. We offer various, free classes including Digital Skills/ Crochet and Sewing class/Mindfullness class/Cognitive Behavioural Therapy sessions. We also run a volunteer programme for anyone in the local area who wishes to volunteer with us – we can currently offer positions in admin/reception, event management and kitchen/serving assistant. We hope to have a volunteer gardening programme soon.

We have groups on in the evenings including children’s dances classes/kickboxing/karate/bingo and host an over 50’s lunch club every week. There is a small fee for these classes/groups.

We also have an on-site café run by a local woman and a Community Pantry run by North Glasgow Community Food Initiative. We work in partnership with a lot of local organisations and will also be hosting literacy/numeracy sessions in the coming weeks.”

Tracy Bain, Engagement Key Worker for PeoplePlus, will be at Roystonhill Community Hub every Thursday between 10am- 2pm offering Employability advice and guidance for anyone looking for work.

Tracy said: “This service is going to add to the amazing work that is already going on at the hub to help the local community in Royston and surrounding areas! We can’t wait to meet people and tell them all about the services we have available to help them on their road to employment.”
